2020 Partnership Grants (PG) Stage 1

SSHRC will launch the 2020 Partnership Grants (PG) Stage 1 competition on November 4. Partnership Grants (PG) provide support for new and existing formal partnerships over 4 to 7 years to advance research, research training and/or knowledge mobilization in the social sciences and humanities through mutual co-operation and sharing of intellectual leadership, as well as through resources as evidenced by cash and/or in-kind contributions. Applications successful at Stage 1 receive $20,000 to help prepare for the second stage application—i.e., to further refine the question(s) to be addressed; to establish partnership arrangements, governance structure and/or approach/methodology; and to consolidate their collaborative activities.

Pre-Award Support

In addition to essential support offered by Faculty Research Grants Facilitators, Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) offers central pre- and/or post-award support for large-scale funding applications. Details on the internal support for the SSHRC Partnership Grant, as well as links to program information and resources, are available on the ISA website at https://www.sfu.ca/strategic-awards/proposals/sshrc/PG.html.

Internal Deadlines

  • November 12, 2019: Register for optional ISA info session (Nov 14) and/or Test Your Concept panel (Nov 21)
  • January 13, 2020: draft application components due to ISA for internal review / institutional support letter preparation
  • January 17, 2020: notification of participation by SFU faculty on a non-SFU-led application due to ISA for assistance with partner requirements
  • February 12, 2020: final application due to ORS (application in "Submit Mode" and completed signature sheet to ors@sfu.ca)

Upcoming Events

The ISA is hosting two optional, but highly recommended, events for project teams. As space will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, please register for one or both events early:

  1. Thu Nov 14, 2019, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., ASB 10908 (Big Data Hub's flexible meeting room): A livestream of the SSHRC PG webinar, followed by an ISA info session and Q&A
  2. Thu Nov 21, 2019, register to request a time slot with the panel (Burnaby campus): A Test-Your-Concept session for groups to pitch their proposals (10-minute presentation followed by 20-minute discussion) to a small panel of previous SFU awardees and others with relevant SSHRC experience. The purpose of this event is for groups to receive constructive feedback to develop more competitive proposals.
