In anticipation of the Fall 2018 grant season (September - December 2018), this bulletin is a great resource to help you plan ahead for major deadlines and research funding opportunities.

 

NOW OPEN (SFU Internal Grant)

Availability: Sep 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019
Submissions will be accepted September 1st through March 31st or, until all available funds have been committed. For faculty in areas supported by SSHRC to attend conferences beginning September 1 through March 31.
 

Sep 10

Deadline: September 10, 2018 (notification sent in Aug 8 mailout)
Maximum Award: $90,000 CAD
Aid to Scholarly Journals grants support Canadian scholarly dissemination by offering a contribution to enable journals to explore innovative activities as well as to help them to defray the costs associated with publishing scholarly articles, digital publishing and journal distribution on Canadian not-for-profit platforms.

Maximum Award: $25,000,000 CAD
This funding opportunity is intended to support $2.5M implementation research projects related to the primary prevention of hypertension and/or diabetes that addresses the determinants and risk factors of these diseases. The opportunity is jointly supported by CIHR and IDRC.

The Project Grant Program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes.

This funding opportunity supports research to develop innovative veterinary solutions focused on product development to reduce therapeutic and prevent non-therapeutic antimicrobial (AMR) use by farmers in developing countries.
 

Sep 17 (Major Deadline)

Deadline: September 17, 2018
Maximum Award: $25,000 CAD
The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through the Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. There are 4 application deadlines throughout the year (Mar 15, Jun 15, Sept 15, and Dec 15). The grants are valued at $7,000 to $25,000 over one year.
 

Sep 18

The purpose of this current funding opportunity is to strengthen the evidence base and expand cannabis research in these identified areas, to build cannabis-related research capacity and/or to inform the development of future larger scale research projects.

Maximum Award: $150,000 CAD
This funding opportunity to catalyzes research projects that have a primary focus on understanding, identifying, mitigating and/or preventing Post-traumatic Stress Injuries (PTSI) and adverse mental health outcomes among Public Safety Personnel (PSP).

Maximum Award: $2,000,000 CAD
This funding opportunity will support the development of interdisciplinary research networks to inform effective global governance systems in order to be better prepared to respond to infectious threats and related challenges.

The RTI Program provides the primary avenue for university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering to obtain up to $150,000 in support for research tools and instruments.

The CHRP Initiative funding supports interdisciplinary collaborations between natural sciences, engineering and health sciences communities to translate innovative research results to knowledge/technology users (KTUs) and related stakeholders outside the academic or training environment. The Discovery Grants Program supports ongoing programs of NSE research with long-term goals. The NOI is mandatory and must be submitted by PI through the Research Portal.
 
The Northern Research Supplement program has been established to help promote Canadian university-based research and training in the Canadian North and to augment the associated logistical costs.  To apply for NRS, you must indicate your interest and include the required attachments as part of the Discovery Grant application on the Research Portal.
 
A joint initiative between the DND and NSERC, aimed at supporting unclassified university-based research dedicated to the development of non-weapon specific technologies with dual-use applications in defence and security target areas. Applications to the DG competition will require a justification of how the proposed research falls within the DND target areas. No additional application to the DND is required.

Connection Grants (amounts from $7,000 to $25,000) support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives.

Partnership Development Grants (PDG) provide $75,000 to $200,000 over one to three years to formal partnerships, led by a project director.

This funding opportunity is the first stage in the development of the Collaborative Housing Research Network (CHRN) to support Canada-wide collaboration of academics and community partners focused on holistic research of housing conditions, and high-quality research that can be used to support housing policy decision-making and inform future program development.
