Early Phase Clinical Trials: Canada
The Weston Brain Institute supports research that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging. The Early Phase Clinical Trials program provides funding to support translational research that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease aging.
Eligibility:
Principal applicant must be:
- A researcher currently working in Canada at least 30% of the time
- At or above the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent
- Affiliated with a Canada Revenue Agency-qualified donee institution located in Canada
- Co-applicants and Collaborators must be at the post-doctoral level or above, and can be working outside Canada.
- Applicants may appear in any role on any number of LOIs
Project must be:
- A clinical trial(s) and/or a clinical trial sub-study(s) that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging
- The development of a therapeutic, tool, and/or select complementary approaches
Funding:
- Up to $1,500,000 over up to 4 years is available per project
- Funds will be granted only for direct costs, and cannot be used for equipment or computer purchases, or for salaries for people who already receive salaries from their institutions.
- Publication costs and travel expenses to scientific conferences/meetings to present work funded by the Weston Brain Institute can be included in the budget.
- Up to 35% of the funds can be used for unique international resources (e.g., in-licensing IP, supporting a co-applicant or collaborator).
Two-stage application process
Program is running on a rolling basis. Applicants may submit an LOI at any time and will be notified of whether to prepare a full Proposal within ~2 months of LOI submission. Applicants who are invited to the Proposal phase will have ~2 months to submit the full application after the invite notification.
*No SFU signature sheet required at LOI phase. Applicants invited to the Proposal phase need to send their full application and SFU Signature Sheet to ors@sfu.ca no later than 3 business days prior to the planned submission date. Overhead is 0%.
