Program for researchers from abroad to sponsor a 6 to 18 month research stay at a research institution in Germany. The fellowship is flexible and can be divided up into as many as three stays within three years.

Eligibility: researchers outside of Germany who completed their doctorates less than twelve years ago. Eligible applicants must have lived outside Germany for a minimum of 12 months in total in the 18-month period prior to submission of the application. Potential applicants of German nationality are eligible to apply provided that their habitual place of work and residence has been located abroad on the assumption of permanence for at least five years.

Amount: The fellowship is worth 3,150 EUR per month. This includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution towards health and liability insurance. Various other expenses are also covered, e.g., 800 Euros/month for research costs, family allowances, child care support for single parents etc.

Scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines may apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation online at any time. The Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 500 Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers annually.
